THE House prosecution panel is seeking the help of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to identify those behind fake quotes and fabricated content being circulated online in connection with Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.

House prosecutor Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon said Friday that the prosecution would coordinate with the CICC to investigate the individuals responsible for spreading false information about the proceedings.

The move came after a fabricated statement was circulated on social media and falsely attributed to Michael Poa, spokesperson and lawyer for Duterte’s defense team.

Poa denied making or issuing the statement and urged social media pages that posted the fake quote to correct or remove it.

Ridon thanked Poa for clarifying the matter, stressing that his criticism was directed at those who fabricated and circulated the statement—not Duterte’s defense spokesperson.

According to Ridon, “Central Luzon Media” was allegedly behind the initial circulation of the fake quote, which was later amplified by some Duterte supporters.

He also accused the social media page of previously circulating fabricated quote cards involving members of the House prosecution panel.

Ridon said the latest incident highlights what he described as a broader disinformation network surrounding the impeachment proceedings.

He stressed that the public must continue to have access to legitimate information from the prosecution, defense and Senate impeachment court to properly follow the trial and understand the positions of both sides.

Ridon warned that restricting legitimate sources of information could create a vacuum that purveyors of fake news could exploit.

The House prosecution panel said it would continue coordinating with the CICC to identify those behind fabricated content and prevent the spread of misinformation related to the impeachment trial.
