The National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC) has reached out to journalists affected by the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Sarangani by providing cash assistance to media practitioners in the SOCCSKSARGEN region.

Rose Tamayo, head of NPC's Visayas and Mindanao Affairs, personally delivered the aid on Thursday, June 18, to journalists in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Koronadal City, and General Santos City.

Tamayo said frontline media workers continue to carry out their responsibility of delivering accurate and timely information to the public while also dealing with their own challenges brought by the disaster.

“It’s a small but meaningful help — the NPC’s way of standing with them in times of disaster,” she said.

Tamayo, who also contributed her own funds to the initiative, said a total of 32 journalists benefited from the assistance, including NPC members, non-members, retired media practitioners, and a journalist with disability based in General Santos City.

She emphasized that supporting media workers helps ensure the continuous flow of reliable information, which remains essential in disaster response, community recovery, and public safety.

Tamayo said the assistance reflects the NPC’s commitment to the welfare of journalists, adding that whenever their colleagues need support, the organization is ready to lend a helping hand, recognizing that their safety and well-being are as important as the vital work they perform for the nation.
