ACTOR Derek Ramsay said he is ready to cooperate with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as the agency investigates a supercar flagged for allegedly using a fake license plate.

Ramsay addressed the issue in an Instagram Story on Saturday, Aug. 15, after the LTO announced that it had issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) involving an actor and the designated driver of a Porsche 918 Spyder.

“I’ve seen the issue regarding the 918 Spyder on social media. I do not drive any cars with fake plates. All my vehicles have proper plates,” Ramsay said.

The actor clarified that he had not yet received an SCO from the LTO but said he would appear before the agency and cooperate with its investigation if formally requested.

“Please carefully read the statement issued by LTO to properly understand what is happening. I have not yet received any show cause order but I will cooperate and appear when requested,” he said.

Ramsay also apologized to the LTO over the controversy and acknowledged that the use of fake license plates is prohibited.

“To the LTO I apologize for what is going on. Driving with fake plates is wrong and should not be tolerated,” he said.

The LTO, in a statement posted on Facebook on Friday, Aug. 14, said it had issued an SCO against an actor and the designated driver of a supercar after determining that the vehicle was allegedly using a fake plate while traveling on public roads.

Although the agency did not identify Ramsay by name, it said its verification showed that the plate number displayed on the vehicle had a different alphanumeric combination from the original motor vehicle license plate assigned to it.

The registered owner and designated driver were ordered to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and submit a verified or sworn explanation regarding the alleged violation.

The designated driver was also directed to explain why their driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked after being considered an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

As part of the enforcement action, the LTO placed the designated driver’s license under a 90-day preventive suspension and ordered its surrender to the IID.

The supercar was also placed under alarm status, while the agency’s Law Enforcement Service was directed to implement its impoundment.

“There are no VIPs in the enforcement of the law. Whoever is involved, if found to have violated the rules, will face the corresponding accountability,” LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao said.

“The LTO will not hesitate to act against anyone who violates our regulations. There will be no favoritism, no excuses, and no exemptions,” he added.

Lacanilao stressed that the agency would not tolerate the use of fake license plates or failure to comply with motor vehicle registration and other legal requirements.

The LTO reminded motorists and registered vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicle documents, license plates, and registrations are legitimate and that all required obligations have been fulfilled before driving on public roads.

The agency further emphasized that a person’s status, name, or the value of a vehicle would not exempt anyone from compliance with transportation laws and regulations.
