QCPD arrests cop, security guard over alleged assault on fellow officer

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has arrested an active-duty police officer and a security guard over the alleged assault, threats, and coercion of another police officer inside a supermarket along Quirino Highway in Barangay Baesa. The incident occurred on Aug. 11, according to report.
Police said the victim, also an active QCPD officer, was allegedly prevented from leaving the supermarket despite presenting his receipt to a security guard identified only by the alias "Mida."
Authorities said the victim identified himself as a police officer, but the security guard allegedly continued to stop him from leaving and sought the assistance of another man, identified by the alias "Rey," who was later confirmed to be an active police officer.
Investigators said the responding police officer allegedly drew his firearm, pointed it at the victim, forcibly pulled him back inside the establishment, and struck him with the weapon, causing injuries.
The security guard allegedly assisted in restraining the victim during the incident. Personnel from Police Station 3 responded to the report, conducted an investigation, and reviewed the supermarket's closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which led to the arrest of both suspects.
Authorities also recovered the police officer's firearm, ammunition, handcuffs, and other pieces of evidence for documentation and further investigation.
The QCPD said criminal complaints for grave threats, physical injuries, and grave coercion will be filed against the police officer, while the security guard will face a complaint for grave coercion.
The police officer will also be subjected to administrative proceedings and corresponding sanctions if found liable, without prejudice to the criminal cases that may be filed against him.
QCPD Director Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio reminded all police personnel to exercise restraint, observe proper police protocols, and uphold professionalism at all times, particularly when carrying government-issued firearms.
"No one is above the law. We remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law, accountability, and professionalism, and we will not tolerate any act of misconduct, violence, or abuse of authority within the police service," Silvio said.
