Marcos declares Sept. 14 special holiday for BARMM elections

PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared September 14, 2026, a special non-working day throughout the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to allow residents to participate in the region’s first regular parliamentary elections.
Under Proclamation No. 1395, the declaration aims to give Bangsamoro residents the opportunity to fully exercise their right to vote and take part in the historic elections.
The first BARMM parliamentary elections are scheduled for September 14 following the rescheduling of the polls under Republic Act No. 12317, which amended the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
The proclamation was signed on August 18 by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on behalf of President Marcos.
The special non-working day is expected to encourage greater voter participation in the region’s first regular parliamentary elections.
