PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued Proclamation No. 1264, declaring May 27 as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.
The Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that Eid’l Adha be observed on May 27 in accordance with the 1447 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar. Eid’l Adha is one of the two most important events in the Islamic calendar, following Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Breaking the Fast.
Considered by Muslims as their most revered holiday, Eid’l Adha is universally celebrated by Muslim families to honor Prophet Ibrahim’s ultimate devotion and obedience to Allah. Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his own son, Ishmael, before Allah provided a lamb to sacrifice instead.
The commemoration likewise marks the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, one of the five pillars of Islam.
Republic Act No. 9849 declared the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic Calendar, a national holiday for the observance of Eid’l Adha, with a movable date.
Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, by authority of the President, signed Proclamation No. 1264 on May 21, 2026.
